Extremism and Radicalisation Policy

Extremism and Radicalisation

Hammersmith Management College (HMC) is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all its learners and staff members.

We are mindful of our statutory duty of preventing Extremism and Radicalisation as well as safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all learners.

When operating this policy, following accepted Governmental definition of extremism serves as a guide for us;

‘Vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs; and/or calls for the death of members of our armed forces, whether in this country or overseas’.

HMC as an organisation has very low tolerance for extremist views of any kind whether from internal sources; learners, staff or advisory board, or external sources such as the local community, external agencies and or individuals. We recognise that extremism and exposure to extremist materials and influences can lead to poor outcomes for all stakeholders involved.

We closely follow any locally agreed procedures as set out by the Local Authority and/or Accreditation Bodies. In case there are clear concerns of extremism or radicalisation, learners and staff are encouraged to discuss these with the Welfare Officer and or Programme Director

We will help support staff and learners who may be vulnerable to such influences and where we believe a member of staff or a learner is being directly affected by extremist materials or influences we will ensure that they are offered mentoring.
